***3 Day UEL Research Project and Coaching Course***

Coaching course - £200 discount available
University of East London (UEL) is conducting research into novice drivers and learning. Dr Jonathan Passmore is conducting this research with a research assistant, Lance Mortimer. He is looking for ADIs, interested in taking part.
In order to satisfy the requirements of the research programme you will be asked to collect some data on the lessons you deliver to your pupils. You will need to complete a short form once a week on three of your pupils (the paper form will take approx 30 seconds to complete each week, by recording the number of learning hours completed that week for each of the three pupils and the date and time of the lesson/s).
To help you enhance your coaching skills the University is offering a 3 day coaching course. The course costs £325. However if you participate in this study a discount of £200 is available. All you pay is £125 for three days of university training on coaching skills for driver development. The course is based on the course delivered by Dr Passmore to the Metropolitan Police Driving School.
There are four 3-day coaching courses planned, two in 2010 and two in 2011, at the University of East London, Stratford. The courses will run between 9.30am and 4pm each day.
The dates for these are:
2010
16th, 17th March & 14th April;
18th, 19th March & 15th April.
2011
15, 16, & 17 February 2011
22, 23, & 24 February 2011
We anticipate high demand given the discount available, so the places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. If you can’t make one of the dates please let us know. We will allocate people by a random draw between the courses in 2010 and those in 2011.
All groups, however, will be participating in the study, which will take place between May 2010 and January 2011. If you would like to take part in this exciting research project then please contact Lance Mortimer lance.mortimer@sky.com for further information or to reserve your place.

***Half Day Human Factors involved in Crashes - Adverse Weather Simulation Course***

Delivered in-car on-site on a 3:1 basis this 3 hour course explores the human factors involved in crashes and includes the Adverse Weather Simulation Course. It looks at raising awareness and building responsiblity in your learners. By developing self evaluation skills your learners will be better able to appreciate that human error often causes crashes and that better anticipation of the road conditions helps prevent loss of control.
The course encourages you to discuss how behavioural adaptation can make us more risky, for example, with the introduction of the seatbelt law, human beings felt safer and therefore took more risks, with higher speeds and closer following distances.

The Adverse Weather Simulation element of the course gives you an opportunity to consider how you can help your pupils take full responsibility for their driving.

You will be driving a state of the art Skid Car. Unlike Skid Pans, the Skid Car can simulate different weather conditions. So one minute you will be driving in Snow, then it could be Ice or maybe Heavy Rain.

This element of the Course will cover:

Skid prevention
Driving in Bad Weather
Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS)
